Para muchos el análisis de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio de las
Naciones Unidas (MDG en inglés) deja unas imágenes de comunidades pobres y
marginalizadas en el sur global que reciben apoyo financiero, préstamos, y apoyo
de varias ONG del norte global. Pero, ¿puede un país del sur global, con
recursos muy limitados, alcanza tanto los MDG como los Objetivos de Desarrollo
Sostenible (SDG en inglés), y hacerlo sin el apoyo, apoyo financiero del norte
global y la industria de desarrollo? El caso de Cuba, y su estrategia de
desarrollo sostenible, podría ofrecernos algunas pautas sobre la forma de
superar estos retos. En particular este artículo analiza los éxitos de Cuba al
cumplir con los objetivos, tanto de MDG como de SDG, en cuestiones de salud
pública, educación, igualdad de género y medio ambiente.

This article analyzes Cuba's medical role in Haiti since Hurricane Georges in 1998, with particular emphasis on the Cuban government's response to the 2010 earthquake. The article examines two central themes. First, it assesses the enormous impact on public health that Cuba has made since 1998, and second, it provides a comparative analysis of Cuba's medical role since the earthquake. (Cuba Stud/GIGA)

Cuba's Forgotten Decade provides a comprehensive assessment of the 1970s that challenges prevailing interpretations of the decade as simply a period of "Sovietization" characterized by widespread bureaucratization, institutionalization, and adherence to Soviet orthodoxy. Drawing from multidisciplinary perspectives and exploring a range of areas--including politics, international relations, culture, education, and healthcare--the contributing authors demonstrate that the 1970s were a time of intense transformation that provided pivotal to the development of the Revolution. Indeed, many of the ideas, approaches, policies, and legislation developed and tested during this decade maintain a very visible legacy in contemporary Cuba. In highlighting the complexity of the 1970s, this volume contributes to a greater understanding of the Cuban Revolution and how the country has faced the challenges of the twenty-first century--back cover

In 2014, at the request of the Brazilian government and under the sponsorship of PAHO, the Cuban government sent 11,400 doctors to work in underserved areas. This article examines the origins and development of this programme, Mais Médicos. The significance of this programme is explored, as well as what it illustrates about south‐south cooperation as a whole.
